Anlässlich der Einzelausstellung Kima (union/love) von Karen Paulina Biswell, die am 13. Mai 2022 im Rahmen der Biennale für Fotografie in Düsseldorf im wildpalms eröffnet wird, freuen wir uns sehr, diese exklusive und limitierte Auflage von zwei Arbeiten zu präsentieren, die von Karen selbst in Paris handgedruckt und entwickelt wurden. Jedes Motiv hat die handliche Größe von 30 x 40 cm, mit nur 25 Exemplaren. Zertifiziert von der Hand des Künstlers.

"Altar" und "One Around The Other" sind zwei wunderschöne Bilder, die in Französisch-Guayana aufgenommen wurden, in der Gemeinschaft der indianischen Gemeinde Awala-Yalimapo, wo Karen Paulina Biswell seit 2017 eine Auftragsarbeit für das Museum Quai Branly in Paris durchführte.

Diese Serie mit dem Titel "Chére Pipi (liebe Pipi)" ist nun Teil der Sammlung des Pariser Museums.

Karen Paulina Biswells Serie untersuchte das vergessene Land zwischen Französisch-Guayana und Surinam und schuf eine sehr menschliche, delikate Fotografie, die die Stereotypen und Bilder, die von diesem Gebiet, seinen Bewohnern und seiner Fauna produziert werden, in Frage stellt und überdenkt. Karen nutzt die klassische Fotografie auf subversive Weise. Sie stellt die Vision und das Imaginäre wieder her, das durch die eurozentristische Sichtweise, die die Geschichte dieses Mediums konstruiert hat, ausgeschlossen wurde.

In Karens Werk ist die Weiblichkeit primär, denn die Frau ist ihr Hauptmotiv. Den indigenen Frauen kommt aufgrund ihres jahrtausendealten Wissens um Natur und Tiere der verdiente Platz zu.

In "One around the other" halten Tochter und Mutter die farbenfrohe Feder eines blau-gelben Aras, die Zärtlichkeit dieser Bindung wird durch das sanfte Halten der Hände ausgedrückt.
"Altar" zeigt eine magische Struktur aus Palmen, die nachts in einem Ritual verbrannt werden, um unsere Ängste zu reinigen.

For the occasion of Karen Paulina Biswell’s solo show Kima (union/love) opening May 13th 2022 for the Biennial for Photography in Dusseldorf at wildpalms, we are very happy to present this exclusive and limited edition of two works, hand printed and developed by Karen herself in Paris. Each motive is the convenient size of 30 x 40 cm, with just 25 copies. Certified by the artist hand.

“Altar” and “One around the other” are two beautiful images taken in French Guyana, in the community at the Amerindian municipality of Awala-Yalimapo, where since 2017 Karen Paulina Biswell was doing a work on commission for the Museum of Quai Branly in Paris.

This series, entitled “Chére Pipi (dear Pipi)” is now part of the collection of the Parisian museum.

Karen Paulina Biswell´s series examined the forgotten land between the French Guyana and Surinam creating a very human, delicate photography that challenges and revisits the stereotypes and images produced in this area, its inhabitants and its fauna. Karen uses the classical photography in a subversive way. She reconstitutes its vision and imaginary that was excluded by the Euro-centristic view, which constructed the history of this medium.

In Karen’s work femininity becomes primary, as the woman is her main subject matter. Indigenous women received the deserved place, because of their millennial knowledge around nature and animals.

In “One around the other” daughter and mother hold the colorful feather of a blue yellow macaw, the tenderness in this bond is expressed in the soft holding of each other hands.
“Altar” reveals a magic structure made by palms, which at night will be burned in a ritual to clean our fears.
